As party’s candidate withdraws case against Nse Essien, PDP
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the 2019 general election for ONNA State Constituency, Mr. Ifiok Ufot Ekaette on Saturday 6th July, 2019, withdrawn his petition which he filled at the tribunal against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rt. Hon Otuekong Nse Essien, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and Mr. Mike Igini, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner.
The APC candidate, Mr Ifiok Ufot Ekaette had in the petition before the tribunal seek to challenge the 2019 general election that declared the PDP’s candidate, Otuekong Nse Essien, as winner of the election.
In the suit filled as case no EPT/AKS/SHA/32/19, was dismissed after the APC lead counsel, Victor Iyanam, Eqs, through one of the his lawyers told the tribunal that the petitioner was no longer interested in the case that the case should be dismissed.
The tribunal chairman, sitting at the environmental sanitation court, No.8 Eyo Eduok Street, Uyo, after due considerations with other members of the tribunal, granted the request of the APC candidate, Mr Ifiok Ufot Ekaette and accordingly dismissed the case.
Speaking with THE INK shortly after the dismissal of the petition, Rt Hon Otuekong Nse Essien, thanked God for the out come of the case and the people of ONNA State Constituency for giving them the opportunity to serve them for a second term in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
He commended the APC candidate for seeing reasons to withdraw the case and promised to do better than he did in the first term. He used the opportunity to thank the State Governor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel for his support.
